An Adelaide magistrate has told police drug allegations laid out against the wife of an alleged meth cook are “sparse” and unlikely to secure any convictions.
On Friday, Karina White, of Camden Park, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court from the Christies Beach police station cells.
Police prosecutors said all the information they had to provide to the court during the hearing before Magistrate Stefan Metanomski was in relation to Ms White’s co-accused and husband, Adam White, 36.
“I think the allegations against this defendant are, on the face of it, sparse to say the least and probably wouldn’t sustain any charge as it stands,” Mr Metanomski said.
The 42-year-old is yet to enter a plea to one count each of manufacturing a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug and trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
Tim Dibden, for Ms White, told the court his client had been a “bystander” caught up in the alleged offending, and denied all knowledge of the alleged drug manufacturing.
The court on Wednesday heard police and fire crews attended the Camden Park property this week after neighbours reported a strong “chemical smell” coming from the home.
Police prosecution told the court detectives and chemists allegedly located 5kg of cooked methamphetamine, a meth lab and enough material to make another 15kg of the drug.
Mr Dibden told the court Ms White had not been present at the property as she was at work as a disability support worker and when she returned home was told to leave by emergency services.
The court heard Ms White had supported her husband when he faced court on Thursday, and then headed to Christies Beach Police station afterwards where she was interviewed and arrested.
Prosecutors did not oppose Ms White’s release on bail and His Honour released Ms White on bail in the sum of $500 to reside with a family friend until the matter returns to court in June.
