The victim of an alleged stabbing at Wingfield has told of his fear if his accused attacker would be released.
Kiyomarcroos Jacob, 36, was charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at Wingfield earlier this month.
The Port Adelaide Magistrates Court heard last week how the alleged victim – and “best mate” of the man accused had not made a statement to police about the incident.
But in court on Tuesday, Brevet Sargeant Jane Lomax said the alleged victim had since provided a statement.
“He is fearful the defendant will be released on home detention,” she said.
“He received 45 stitches across the stomach owing to the injuries and surgery. He doesn’t want to be around the accused.”
Defence lawyer Stacey Carter said the alleged victim had previously communicated that he wasn’t fearful of the accused.
Ms Carter said accounts of the incident also varied between the accused, the alleged victim and a witness.
The court previously heard a drunken argument over money between two best friends had resulted in the attempted murder charge against Jacob.
Police and emergency services were called to Graham Street in Wingfield on Thursday, March 4 after reports of an alleged violent altercation.
The court heard Jacob and the alleged victim were best friends, work colleagues and housemates, who had lived together for the past two years.
But a fight allegedly broke out over money, leading the alleged victim to be stabbed several times.
The court also heard, while Jacob had prior convictions for driving while disqualified and for drink driving offences, there were no priors for violent behaviour.
Magistrate Jayanthi McGrath said there was no form of bail suitable for Jacob.
“I’m concerned about the seriousness of the allegations and the protection of the alleged victim,” she said.
The matter will next be heard in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in June.
