OnlyFans has become one of the most talked about forms of income and is currently home to more than 85 million registered users worldwide.
Used by superstars like Blac Chyna or former Disney star Bella Thorne, all the way through to MAFS star and Adelaide local Seb Guilhaus, OnlyFans content can range from the raunchiest of content all the way down to content creators eating food or completing daily chores.
While the pay-per-view platform has been painted as ‘porn light’, it has allowed everyday people to make a solid living from the comfort of their home.
Northern suburbs mother Evie Leana and her 19-year-old daughter Tiahnee began creating content separately and quickly saw the benefits.
“I didn’t know anything about it until my daughter told me what it was,” Evie said.
“I was really worried by the judgment she might receive and about her reputation and safety – like any mum would be.”
After Tiahnee told Evie she made $100,000 in her first year, the once-concerned mum began to rethink her position on the site.
“She went ahead and did it anyway. People will always judge but in Tiahnee’s case they couldn’t be more wrong,” she said.
A number of South Australian adult retail stores have also reaped the benefits of the OnlyFans surge, with Blueberry Erotica’s co-owner Ryan Dohnt helping men and woman order in equipment.
“We have both guys and girls come in, they don’t say its for their OnlyFans straight away but after about the third of fourth question you sort of click on,” he said.
“It can be anything from a prop to a sex toy, just depends on what the client wants.”
A recent report by Prosple showed the highest paying graduate job was in the mining, oil and gas sector starting at an eye-watering $81,834. The second highest paying sector is the media and communications with $76,414 average salary.
However, a successful OnlyFans accounts does not happen over night. Audrey Aura, one of SA’s highest earners, says marketing yourself is key to succeeding in the industry.
“Probably only five per cent of this job is making the content. The rest is marketing, customer service and sales,” Ms Aura said.
“The main thing that people don’t realise is that there is no search function on OnlyFans, so we have to do all of our own marketing.
“If we’re not marketing ourselves and bringing attention to our page, we’re not getting subscribers.”
