Covid has closed off many traditional sources of revenue in the adult entertainment industry. But content-makers have found a new way to make a buck. Meet more of the SA stars of OnlyFans. **WARNING** Some of the images and themes described here are of an adult nature.
Last year we introduced you to four Adelaide based creators who had shed their inhibitions to show their wares on the adults-only pay per view website OnlyFans - many making more cash than they had ever made in their life.
Since then the popularity of the website has boomed with copycat services springing up online.
More celebs have turned to the site as Covid continues to ravage many industries globally, including more traditional adult entertainment avenues, and OnlyFans’value is now said to be worth more than a billion dollars.
But all that was at serious risk of being lost when earlier this year the website announced a ban on sexually explicit content on its platform.
After an outcry from content creators and fans, the site reversed its decision just a week later.
Here in Adelaide, even more are turning to OnlyFans to make a quick NSFW buck and today we bring you the stories of three more of the site’s local stars and just how they found themselves uploading homemade content.
KIKI ISOBEL
Kiki Isobel, 24, has been a creator on OnlyFans for over a year, but she hasn’t told her parents yet.
“It’s one of those things. How do you tell your family that you’re doing porn?” she said.
“But it’s definitely been great for me. I’ve met some of my best friends now, who are also on OnlyFans.
“The only thing is, how big do I want to go? And how do I tell my parents? The bigger I get, the harder it will be to hide.”
Kiki was a children’s photographer when she ended a long-term relationship in July last year and decided upon a new career path.
“It came to a point where I wanted to do something different, something I’d never done before,” she said.
It became a really good option for me especially during Covid... I wasn’t getting many shifts.
“It started to become a trend on Instagram, everyone started to do it and that’s how I found it.”
Kiki hasn’t looked back since, earning between $US300 and $US800 a week on the platform from the “comfort of her own home”.
“I’m loving it. I’ve always been interested in the sex industry, it’s just a fun job to have. I love doing it and when you like doing what you do for work, it’s barely work,” she said.
“More and more people are doing it. The whole industry is becoming easier to talk about with everyone.
“So far I’ve been pretty lucky, I haven’t had any backlash from friends finding out - to my face at least.”
But Kiki, who also works as a topless waitress, said becoming successful on the platform wasn’t as simple as simply posting risque photos.
“A lot of people just join (OnlyFans) and then flop instantly,” she said.
“It takes so much more effort, and management and marketing than you’d think. It’s a lot harder than it sounds.”
DOLLY DIAMOND
Originally from the UK, Dolly Diamond said she might have been forced to go back home if it wasn’t for OnlyFans.
“As soon as Covid hit, it became my full-time gig as it was impossible to go out and do my regular job,” said Dolly, 29, who previously worked as a photographer.
“I’m an (Australian) resident, not a citizen, so there was no government assistance at all at the time. I could well have gone back to England if OnlyFans wasn’t in existence.”
Now among the top three per cent of OnlyFans creators, Dolly first joined the platform in 2018 as a “side hustle” after years as a glamour, fashion and bikini model.
“Before OnlyFans, there was (crowdfunding website) Patreon and I was on there, which was similar... then when OF came along and then the pandemic happened, it went mental,” she said.
“It completely changed and the website took off - it just skyrocketed.”
Dolly, who came to Australia seven years ago, can make between $US3000 and $US9000 each month from her OF content, which is relatively tame compared to some of the hardcore content produced by other models.
She admits her line of work sometimes makes it difficult to have personal relationships due to the “stigma” of the job. But there are no regrets.
“I choose to own my work, others hide it and both are totally okay,” she said.
“I personally could never date anyone that even suggested I give up the job I survive on, that I enjoy and brings me self confidence, creativity and freedom.
“I am very proud of the empire I am building and the person I am today.”
AXEL
Twenty-six-year-old Axel was introduced to the OnlyFans industry through his girlfriend Shortiii- who readers may remember from part one of look at the SA stars of OnlyFans.
“Shortiii was someone I knew from the fitness industry because she’s heavily involved, but we didn’t really meet until earlier this year,” Axel said.
“From the beginning of our relationship she was very open with what she was doing. We were working out if we wanted to commit to a relationship and how that would work.
“After about two months of seeing each other, we started spending a lot more time together and eventually we committed more to each other.”
A relative newcomer to OnlyFans, Axel now runs a solo page and a joint one with his girlfriend and says having Shortiii there to show him the ropes has been helpful.
“We actually shot our first scene together the week we decided to be more official,” he said.
“I was always thinking of starting my own thing, but I didn’t have a lot of information on the business side of it.
“Meeting Shortiii and being part of her friend group, most of them are creators as well, gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect and how it should be done. It’s almost like an apprenticeship.”
The two have also now started filming with other creators and each of the offerings cater to different audiences.
“I like the diversity that each of the pages bring and being able to entertain multiple genders and sexualities is exciting,” said Axel.
“I always like chatting with my fans and most of the time it’s very positive.
“I haven’t had a bad interaction yet. I am pretty upfront with who I am and what I do.”
But while things get hot and steamy on screen between Axel and Shortiii, they says that off screen they’re just like most couples.
“We still do all the normal couple things; go to movies, the gym, cook together.
“We’re a very social couple and we also both work a lot as well.
“ But what you see on screen is also very much what we are like in person.
“I would say you do get to see the real life intimacy and connection that we have in our videos and that shows,” said Axel.
