The Far North Football League’s top 25 players of 2024 ranked

SA’s smallest local competition, the Far North Football League, still boasts plenty of footy talent, so we’ve ranked the competition’s top 25 players of 2024. See who made the cut.

The Far North Football League is one of SA’s smallest local footy competitions, with just four clubs and 15 rounds a year, but still boasts promising country talent.

Based on this season’s form, we’ve ranked the top 25 players the competition has to offer.

Here are our rankings from no. 25 to 1.

25. RYAN KUERSCHNER

(Hornridge)

Also an A Grade and reserves player for Central Augusta, Kuerschner has been a standout through his three performances for Hornridge.

A skilled and hardworking player who can contribute on the rebound or win his own footy and cut up opposition with his disposal.

Has three best player nods so far.

24. MITCHELL ALVES

(Roxby Districts)

Alves has taken his game to another level after a solid season with the Miners in 2023.

Has no problem doing the dirty work for his side and also provides great run around the ground.

Has three goals and three best player mentions in five games.

23. SETH WAIT

A solid player for Olympic Dam in 2023, young gun Wait has improved his production so far this year.

The former Cummins Kapinnie player can fill a number of roles for the Devils and has a good footy IQ, always making good decisions when in possession.

Can also move up front to hit the scoreboard, with seven goals and three best player nods in six games.

22. LIAM MURPHY

(Roxby Districts)

A gun through the middle and up front for Miners, Murphy remains one of the best in the FNFL this season.

Murphy’s ability to win the footy, provide run and carry through the midfield and also kick goals makes him one of his side’s most impactful players.

Has 19 majors and two best player nods in eight games.

21. ANDREW MILLER

(Hornridge)

The top goalkicker for Hornridge this season, Miller has been integral to the success of the Magpies.

A strong player who leads well, has safe hands and a reliable boot.

Has 30 goals and two best player nods in seven games.

20. LUKE WEBB

(Olympic Dam)

A star for the Devils in 2023, Webb has been solid again in 2024 in his few appearances.

Webb is a highly-skilled player who is clean by hand and foot and has no problem setting his teammates up with accurate disposal.

Has two best player performances in his three games.

19. CURTLEY DADLEH

A consistent player for the Roos, Dadleh is putting together a standout 2024 season.

Dadleh works tirelessly through four quarters to provide security on and behind the ball and can also have an impact inside 50 with his creative disposal and finishing ability.

Has four goals and two best player performances in five games.

18. PETER ROWE

(Hornridge)

A strong contributor for East Roxby last season, Rowe has impressed for the Magpies in 2024.

Rowe is a standout leader in the competition and always finds a way to impact the game for his side on the footy as a tough player with great skills.

Has three best player nods in five games.

17. TRAVIS WAIT

(East Roxby)

Wait had an impressive 2023 season for the Roos and has continued his strong performance in 2024.

Relentless in the contest, Wait battles hard for his side each week and can also impact the game inside the forward 50 by creating for teammates.

Has four best player nods in six games.

16. THOMAS CASTLE

(Roxby Districts)

Arriving at Miners after a solid season with Solomontown in the Spencer Gulf, Castle has been a consistent contributor for his new side.

Tough in the contest on and behind the ball, Castle battles hard in the air and at ground level to win the footy for his team.

Has three best player mentions in his five FNFL games.

15. LUKE GODFREY

(Roxby Districts)

Also a solid reserves and A Grade player for Willaston, Godfrey has been a standout for Miners so far in 2024.

A talented player who can play a strong role up front or through the midfield, Godfrey’s ability to find the ball in space and damage the opposition makes him one of his side’s best.

Has three best player nods and two goals in three games.

14. JON SECKER

(Hornridge)

An A Grader for Blackwood in division one of the Hills FL this season, Secker has been among the best in all four of his appearances for Hornridge.

Secker is a hard worker around the ground who finds plenty of the footy and can damage opposition with his disposal under pressure.

Has four best player nods and four goals.

13. MAXWELL HANSON

(Hornridge)

Recently a key player for Mitchell Park in the AdFL, Hanson has made more appearances for Hornridge this season and has been a top performer for the Magpies.

A strong midfielder who attacks the footy hard to win possession for his side and deliver efficiently around the ground, Hanson can also hit the scoreboard through his hard running.

Has five majors and four goals in six games.

12. SHAUN SIMONS

(Olympic Dam)

Simons has been a top performer for Olympic Dam this year.

The former Walkerville player covers ground well, wins plenty of the footy and delivers to teammates accurately.

Has four best player nods in seven games so far.

11. BRYCE SMITH

(Hornridge)

Also representing Colonel Light Gardens this season, Smith has had a strong year at Hornridge.

A standout player who is clean below his knees and makes smart and quick decisions for the Magpies, Smith can also have an impact up front.

Has nine goals including an eight-goal performance against East Roxby as well as four best player nods in six games.

10. JAIYA WARRIOR

An electric player who has been dominant when available this year, Warrior remains among the best in the FNFL.

Boasts brilliant hand and foot skills and great spatial awareness up front to damage the competition’s defences.

Can also boot goals from any angle, with 20 majors and three best player mentions in his four games for the Miners.

9. BRODIE CADEN

(East Roxby)

Caden has produced at a high level for the Roos this year after a strong 2023.

A tireless and skilled midfielder who does his best work in the contest, Caden brings grit to his side and is skilled off of either side of his body.

Has four best player performances in his four games.

8. TYE STARKEY-TRELOAR

(Roxby Districts)

Also a dominant player for Solomontown in the Spencer Gulf FL this year, Starkey-Treloar has been a top contributor for Roxby Districts.

Wins plenty of his own ball and deals to teammates efficiently while under pressure and also applies consistent tackle pressure to the opposition.

Has three best player mentions and five goals in four games.

7. JAKE SUTCLIFFE

A former premiership player with Sturt and star for St Peters OC, gun forward Sutcliffe has been a standout for the Devils.

Also a star for Tanunda this year, Sutcliffe’s ability to either do damage on the ball or takeover a game up front through his supreme athleticism and goalkicking ability makes him one of the FNFL’s top players.

Has two best player nods and six goals in three games and would be ranked higher with more appearances under his belt.

6. ZACH NOLL

(Hornridge)

Noll has improved his production this season after a solid 2023 campaign.

A valuable asset around the ground with his ability to win aerial and ground level contests and create for teammates ahead of the footy.

Has six best player nods and four goals in nine games.

5. LACHLAN BATES

(Roxby Districts)

The Far North FL’s top goalkicker so far this year, Bates has been a machine up front for Miners.

The former PHOS Camden player executes smart leads forward of the footy, takes strong marks and can boot goals from anywhere.

Has 35 majors and four best player appearances in nine games.

4. LEONARD RHIND

(Hornridge)

Also a standout for the West Coast Hawks in the Western Eyre FL, Rhind has been one of Hornridge’s most consistent players this year.

Rhind has the ability to produce top performances behind the footy or through the contest as a tough and relentless player who wins plenty of the ball and cuts teams up with his disposal.

Has five best player mentions in six games for the Magpies.

3. TYSON HORNHARDT

Olympic Dam’s top performer so far this season, Hornhardt has been a weapon for his side.

Can play a number of roles through the middle with his skill, explosiveness and valuable run and carry, and also delivers to teammates efficiently.

Has eight best player nods and four goals through nine games so far.

2. JACK RIGDEN

Rigden has produced a strong 2024 campaign after his starring 2023 season.

A star through the middle who has the ability to win a number of contests and set-up his teammates ahead of the play with accurate disposal.

Has four best player performances and four goals in eight games.

Playing-coach of the reigning premier, 2023 Mail Medallist Jack Sires has been at his best again in season 2024.

A tireless and athletic player who covers ground as well as anyone in the competition, is skilled overhead and off of the deck and disposes efficiently to teammates while under pressure.

Has six best player nods and a goal in nine games and will be one to watch as the Miners aim for back-to-back flags.
