The Adelaide Plains Football League boasts some of the best talent in SA country footy.
After consultation with league insiders and based on this season’s form, we’ve ranked the competition’s top 25 players of 2025.
Here are our rankings from number 25 to 1.
25. CHARLIE BAKER
(Mallala)
Baker has emerged as one of Mallala’s top players this season.
A skilled asset around the ground who is always clean in possession and composed under pressure.
Has three best player appearances in six games.
24. DYLAN REINBRECHT
(Two Wells)
A dominant player for Two Wells this year, Reinbrecht has been important to the Roosters’ big start.
Tough player who wins his own footy, provides good run and precise disposal.
Has four best player nods and five goals in six games.
23. HENRY MCCABE
(Hamley Bridge)
A versatile player for Hamley Bridge, McCabe has been a major standout for the Bombers in season 2025.
McCabe competes consistently in the air and can play a strong role behind the ball or along the flanks with his damaging run and ball use.
Four best player nods and four goals in six games.
22. TAIT NOTTLE
(Hummocks Watchman Eagles)
Joining the Eagles in season 2024, Nottle has been a standout for his side as a star midfielder and forward.
A tough player who hits the contest hard and covers ground as well as anyone in the competition.
21. DOMENIC PRATICO
(United)
One of United’s top performers this season.
Pratico does a mountain of work around the ground by finding the footy consistently and releasing teammates with his distribution.
Has five best player mentions and four goals in six games.
20. JAMES DALY
(Hummocks Watchman Eagles)
Daly’s impact through the midfield has been as important as ever so far this season.
A skilled player who competes in the contest and always has time on the ball to make the right decisions, Day has tallied three best player nods and a goal in six games.
19. JOE WHITTLESEA
(Mallala)
A consistent player for the Magpies who fills a number of roles each week.
Whittlesea is adept at winning the footy in the contest and also reading the play well to prevent opposition attacks.
Also one of the competition’s best distributors, he has three best player mentions in six games.
18. DAVID HAYDON
(Two Wells)
Haydon is the best fullback in the competition when playing across the defence, using his strength and athleticism to shut down almost any forward, taking strong marks and using the ball well out of the back half.
The former Central District gun has two best player performances in five games.
17. ANGUS JUDD
(Hamley Bridge)
A star along the flanks, Judd is one of the best runners in the Adelaide Plains FL and has been damaging for the Bombers.
An athletic and explosive player, Judd sets up teammates with rebound attacks with accurate disposal and can also rack up forward 50 entries.
Has five best player mentions and seven goals in six games.
16. JAMIE KOVACIC
(Hummocks Watchman Eagles)
Arriving back at HWE full time after playing with the West Adelaide reserves, Kovacic has been dominant for the side.
A goalkicking threat who does major damage around the ground with his clean use and high footy IQ.
Has three best player mentions and 13 goals in six games.
15. JARRED ALLMOND
(United)
Undoubtedly a star of the competition, Allmond would be ranked much higher with more appearances under his belt this year.
The United leader and former WWTFC gun can do anything for his side and is one of the best users of the footy in the competition.
14. DANIEL MASON
(Angle Vale)
Arriving from Gepps Cross, Mason has starred for Angle Vale so far this season.
Attacks the contest relentlessly to win his own footy and release teammates with creative disposal.
Has three best player mentions in six games.
13. DANIEL KAIPARA
(Virginia)
Arriving at Virginia after time with Modbury in Division three of the Adelaide Footy League, Kaipara has been a standout despite his new team’s struggles the past couple seasons.
A skilled player who can produce in a number of ways whether he is kicking goals in the forwardline or dominate in the inside contest, Kaipara gas three best player nods and four goals in six games.
12. BAILEY ARTHUR
(Balaklava)
One of the competition’s most consistent players so far this year.
Arthur has the ability to play a number of roles for the Peckers and often does damage by finding plenty of the footy and hitting teammates with precision.
Has five best player nods in six games.
11. JACK HEASLIP
(Mallala)
An important leader for Mallala, Heaslip has been a standout in a number of roles for his club.
Possesses the ability to dominate through the middle and also win important contested possessions behind the ball.
Three best player nods in six games so far.
10. WILL GUTSCHE
(Balaklava)
Making the move to the APFL after time in the Riverland, Gutsche has been a standout in the competition.
Hard at the ball and possessing clean skills, Gutsche can turn a game on its head in the contest.
Four best player nods in five games.
9. DYLAN WISE
(Two Wells)
Two Wells’ captain has led from the front for his side yet again this year and still remains among the competition’s best players.
Wise’s ability to dominate on the ball or hit the scoreboard up front makes him a weapon for the Roosters and he boasts great composure in the contest.
Has two best player nods and 11 goals in five games.
8. CODY DUNCAN
(Hummocks Watchman Eagles)
A young gun out of the EP who joined HWE for season 2025, Duncan has emerged as one of the top target forwards in the APFL.
An athletic and skilled player who takes strong marks, consistently finds space up front and boots goals from anywhere.
Has 23 goals and three best player mentions in six games.
7. CALEB EDMEAD
(Two Wells)
The star playing-coach Two Wells, Edmead has been a force in the competition yet again this season.
A crafty and athletic plater who is strong overhead and a reliable set shot, Edmead has the ability to win endless contests up front or through the middle and boot important majors for the Roosters.
Has 15 goals in six games so far.
6. JOSH STUDHAM
(Hummocks Watchman Eagles)
A star of the Adelaide Plains competition, Studham has been dominant so far in 2025.
Studham is a strong and athletic player who can do damage around the ball with his ability to find the footy and distribute to teammates efficiently while also damaging the scoreboard with his marking and goalkicking ability.
Has 12 majors and three best player nods in six games.
5. AARON MARCHIORO
(United)
Joining United from CBC OC, Marchioro has been a star in the Adelaide Plains FL.
A versatile player who can do damage as a clean and tough player on the ball or move up front to create and kick goals.
Has nine goals and five best player nods in six games.
4. LUKE BARNETT
(Two Wells)
Barnett is a force in the APFL and has played a significant part in his side’s start to the season.
Barnett has dominated on the ball and up front with his ability to win the contested footy or overwhelm defenders with his physicality and athleticism and hit the scoreboard.
Has four best player appearances and 15 goals in six games.
3. LACHLAN MICHAEL
(Balaklava)
A versatile star for Balaklava, Michael has been one of the major standouts of the APFL so far in 2025.
Provides strong run and carry, relentless tackle pressure and the ability to set his teammates up with goalkicking opportunities through his accurate disposal.
Has five best player nods and five goals in six games.
2. JAKOB THOMSON
(Two Wells)
A reliable forward during his time with Central District, Thomson has been dominant as a ruck/forward utility since returning to Two Wells.
An SA Country representative, Thomson is a strong and athletic player who covers ground as well as anyone and can take over a game with his tap work and all-round ability.
Has five best player mentions and 21 goals in six games.
1. JORDAN CLEMENTS
(Mallala)
A dominant onballer who joined Mallala from Kimba for season 2025, Clements has been a major reason for the club’s strong run so far this year.
A tough player in the contest who wins plenty of his own footy, distributes efficiently and covers ground as well as anyone.
Has six best player nods and five goals in six games.
