Paul Puopolo joins Greenacres for 2025 Adelaide Footy League season

A triple AFL premiership player has joined a fast-rising Adelaide Footy League club for season 2025 in a playing and coaching capacity.

A triple AFL premiership forward has joined an Adelaide Footy League club for season 2025 after two years at his junior outfit.

Former Hawthorn and Norwood gun Paul Puopolo has joined division five club Greenacres in a playing and coaching capacity after departing Hope Valley at the end of 2024.

The 38-year-old forward/midfield utility sustained an injury last season and was originally intending to hang his boots up but had a change of heart, ultimately deciding to join two brothers-in-law at the Dragons.

“I’m really impressed with the club and the A Grade looks fit and strong – there’s real excitement there,” Puopolo said.

“I’m keen to experience some new things and meet some new people and just trying my hand at as many things as I can with the team.

“Obviously, I’m not getting any younger so at the moment it’s just about having fun, which is why you play footy.”

One of the most experienced players in the Adelaide Footy League, Puopolo believed he could guide Greenacres’ players as the club attempts to earn promotion for the third straight season.

He said he was eager to try his hand at coaching and possibly pursue it well into the future.

“I’m going to be helping out with coaching and taking some drills, helping guys, just seeing what I can do to help everyone improve,” he said.

“It was never something I really thought about but I’m eager to see if I want to go into a coaching role.

“That might be the next little step for me in my journey.

“It’s going to be a good experience to help the club out and watch it grow and compete to move up the divisions.

“There is a really good feeling around the club at the moment and that’s pretty exciting.”
