Here is what caught our eye at the weekend:
WINTER MAKES HISTORY
Glenelg skipper Jake Winter made club history on day two of his side’s grade cricket clash against Woodville at Park 25 on the weekend.
Winter smashed a matchwinning 233 not out – the highest ever score in the Seahorses’ As.
His unbeaten double century included 23 fours and six sixes, and helped Glenelg chase down Woodville’s 8/390 declared.
The 21-year-old’s knock leaves him as the competition’s top run scorer this season with 3288 – 812 more than the next-best Kelvin Smith – at 102.75.
Glenelg sits fourth on the two-day ladder with a 6-3 record.
The only two other players to score double-hundreds for Glenelg are Ian Chappell (208 in 1973/74) and Andrew Hilditch (228 in 1985/86).
ONE MAN SHOW
St George’s Ravinder Sandhu produced an extraordinary innings in Adelaide & Suburban’s Section Seven.
Chasing Sheidow Park’s 163, he peeled off 107 while no other batter made double figures.
He totally dominated the exciting chase as his side prevailed by two wickets.
OPENER’S STAND
There was another tremendous solo show in Turf’s LO3, where Fulham opener Jack Simpson belted 132 not out (19 fours, one six) in his team’s 8/221.
He outscored the Multicultural Sports Club by one.
TIM’S TIME
Yet another batter to score more than half his side’s runs was Timothy Hodson.
Playing in Para Districts LO1A, Hodson smashed 178 not out in a score of 4/295.
His blistering knock obviously rattled Central United, which completely fell over in the chase for a total of just 63.
STUNNING COLLAPSE
Port Adelaide’s two-day campaign is in tatters after sustaining a stunning batting collapse in its Saturday/Sunday home clash with Tea Tree Gully at the weekend.
The Magpies had been well placed at 1/75 but after Damon Kerr fell for 22, they lost 9/54.
It was Port’s fifth loss in its past seven matches.
Magpies captain Nick Benton bowled his heart out, taking 6/43 in the first innings and 4/22 in the second.
Port is now ninth on the two-day ladder, 60 points outside the top four.
WARRIOR LEADS WAY
Another dominant performance came from Adelaide Warriors’ Boree Kieng, whose impressive innings of 155 carried his side to 7/264.
Two Wells did not even manage to get halfway to the target, collapsing to 120 in reply.
ALL OVER IN A HURRY
It was not a great day in Turf’s LO5 for Mawson Lakes, which managed an innings score of just 32.
Extras was the only scorer in double figures.
Gaza’s Darryl Webster did most of the damage, finishing with 5/3 from his seven miserly overs.
It took just four overs for Gaza to record a 10-wicket win.
STURT YOUNGSTER TOPS THE CHARTS
Sturt all-rounder Ethan Trewartha is top of the under-14 red batting and bowling averages. The youngster has hit 195 runs at 32.5 and claimed 14 wickets at 15.36 from seven games so far this season.
Ethan was the Blues’ leading wicket-taker in its two-day clash against Northern Districts at the weekend.
He claimed 4/70, before topscoring for his team with the bat (53 not out).
It has been a big year for Ethan.
He was part of the SAPSASA under-12 cricket team that won the national competition for the first time in 20 years.
SHARK SHOWS TEETH
There was another tight bowling performance in ASCA Section Eight from ICC Sharks’ Peter Richards.
Defending 7/164, Richards’ finished with figures of 4/6 from his eight overs as Warradale fell short at 131.
ACTION JACKSON
In ASCA Section Nine, an even 100 from Port Noarlunga’s Russell Jackson brought the White Pointers to a sizeable 5/293 from their 40 overs.
In an odd chase, South Road finished at 3/142.
