Here is what caught our eye at the weekend:
ALLAN IS THE KEY
Making 150 is a mighty effort at any level, but it’s a rarity in the juniors.
In PDCA under-16s, Salisbury West’s Michael Allan opened the batting and remained unbeaten on 150 as his team took Dublin for 4/358 from 44 overs.
PECKERS SMASH TARGET AFTER A GRAND DECLARATION
WOODVILLE produced an amazing effort to beat Kensington outright after trailing by 304 on the first innings, courtesy of a bold declaration from Kensington skipper Jake Brown in their grade cricket clash on Saturday.
Set 305 runs to win off 64 overs after declaring on 6/117 in its first innings and the Browns 0/0 in the second after making 7/421 in their first dig, Woodville stormed to 4/308 in 55.5 overs.
Harry Nielsen (96) and Jacob Dickman (91 not out) dominated.
Woodville coach Sam McNally said Brown was the key to the stunning finish.
“That is just typical of Jake Brown,” McNally said.
“At the start of the day I expected we could chase their 421 but that didn’t work out.
“When the captains got together Browny gave us a very generous target. That’s the way he plays his cricket. We are grateful for the way it worked out.”
ROADIES NEVER SURRENDER
Everyone wants to declare against South Road’s Adelaide & Suburban Section Nine side – and to its credit it has fought back every time.
Coromandel got off to a reasonable start with an opening stand of 228 thanks to Benjamin Kernich, who smashed 158 from just 108 balls, 26 of which were sent for four and three for six.
That’s 122 without running.
His opening partner Bruce Carpenter made 105 from 123 balls with 15 fours.
They closed at 2/371 from 50 overs.
Not only did the Roadies make it to stumps none down, but at a nice clip to be 0/38.
Still, 371 should be enough.
PLAUCCI COMES TO THE RESCUE
In Para Districts Grade Four, North Eastern Knights were in all sorts of bother at 7/104 against Riverside.
David Placucci came to the rescue with 132 (16 fours, four sixes) to add 141 for the eighth wicket with Matthew Long (26), leading to a more respectable 9/263.
Riverside’s 164 was never in the hunt.
To underline how crucial the matchwinning partnership was, the Knights were in a similar position in the second dig at 7/77 and crumbled for 88.
WEATHERALD WEATHERS THE STORM
Redbacks opener Jake Weatherald blasted 136 off 127 balls to spark Adelaide University to a grade cricket victory over Southern District on Saturday.
Weatherald found the boundary 18 times (14 fours, four sixes) in his 162 minutes at the University Oval crease as the Blacks declared for 5/386 in reply to the Stingrays’ opening total of 244.
Southern then made 1/41 from 18 overs to hold on and avoid the outright loss.
LONG DAY IN FIELD
In Turf C2, it was a long, long day for Brahma Lodge as it watched the Multicultural Sports & Community boys plunder 4/437 from their 72 overs.
Faraz Khan was the star with 170 not out (23 fours, two sixes) as he added 125 with Gagandeep Josan (97 with 18 fours) and then 199 with Grishm Bhatt (95, 10 fours and two sixes).
Brahma Lodge might be hoping this stupid weather continues next weekend.

OPENING UP
“Just bat” may have been the instructions to the Riverside openers in the PDCA Grade One clash against Parafield Gardens.
Luke Harris (108) joined Sam Robinson (102 not out) to propel their team to 2/264 from 70 overs.
Robinson was coming off two consecutive ducks.
TEAM OWES OWEN
In PDCA Grade Two, Smithfield’s John Owen owned the day, making 166 of his team’s 4/275.
Owen’s knock included 15 fours and a whopping nine sixes.
ATCO only just passed him with 173.
THRILLING FINISH
It was a nail-bitting end finish to the women’s grade Twenty20 match between Southern District and Northern Districts at Bice Oval on Sunday – the Jets only surpassed the
Stingrays’ total of 112 with two balls to spare.
Southern’s Kylie Rattray set the pace early for the hosts, posting 38 off 23 balls.
Selina Solman (29) also made a solid start.
But Sam Betts continued her strong form with the bat and her 45 not out helped the Jets steal the game.
MOORE PLEASE
In ASCA Section Two, it was a similar one-man show as Glenelg ANA’s Cameron Moore dominated a total of 6/282 with a powerful 157, laced with 23 fours and four sixes.
Happy Valley was on the receiving end.
