Here is what caught our eye at the weekend:

BENTON IS BUZZING

There are few better feelings as a bowler than getting a crucial breakthrough in a tight match.

Port Adelaide all-rounder Nick Benton experienced the elation of an important scalp on Saturday – and really enjoyed it.

In the video above, Benton finds the edge of Woodville skipper Tom Andrews with a great delivery before wheeling away in celebration.

Some down at the Magpies say Benton is still doing laps of Port Reserve.

It was one of a string of crucial wickets from the Port captain that sparked his side to a grade cricket win over Woodville.

The former Redback was at his best with the ball, taking 5/81 to hold the Peckers to 218 as they chased 228 on day two at Port Reserve.

Wicketkeeper Damon Kerr was busy with five catches behind the stumps.

“Umpire cam” appears to be a regular weekly release from SACA and this column hopes it continues.

Check out last week’s video below of Southern District bowler Mishal Khan sending the stumps flying as he ripped through Prospect opener Harvey Brennan.

ABOVE AVERAGE

In Adelaide & Suburban Section Six, Coromandel’s Andrew O’Keefe is on an unbelievable run streak.

His 140 not out (13 fours, seven sixes) against Cove comes on the back of 114 not out, 140 not out and a first-round “failure” of 53.

He is averaging 521 by November.

Nice.

CRAIGMORE GETS IT RIGHT THE SECOND TIME

We can’t think of a higher second-innings score in local cricket than this one.

In Para Districts, after being rolled for 100, Craigmore watched Eastern Park race away to 9/311 and a massive first-innings lead.

Easy fixed – just make 435 in the second dig.

Former Port Adelaide grade batsman Dylan McIver led the way for Craigmore with a monstrous 178 from just 127 balls, belting 27 fours and a six. A big effort from 62 overs and still no points.

ELLA SHARP FOR STINGRAYS

Southern District’s women’s side is experiencing a resurgence this season and a 14-year-old has been part of the push.

Emerging bowler Ella Wilson has taken seven wickets from five senior appearances for the Stingrays.

On Saturday, she led her side with 3/10 as they held West Torrens to 7/77 in a Twenty20 victory.

Southern did not win a single T20 clash in its last campaign.

The Stingrays have also already equalled last year’s win tally of two in the first grade competition with five rounds still to play.

Wicketkeeper Kylie Rattray hit an impressive 37 not out from 20 balls and Hannah Armstrong made 34 to steer the Stingrays to 3/138 as they won the toss and chose to bat first at Henley Grange Memorial Oval.

MAGPIES SKITTLED

Port Adelaide experienced joy in its A-grade side but its under-14 reds outfit was a different story as the young Magpies were bowled out for just 28.

There were five ducks and four batsmen made one as they were rolled through by Northern Districts.

Port captain Mitchell Scholes was the only shining light, top scoring with 12.

The Jets then smashed 4/286 declared from 30 overs.

HEARD IS A HIT

Runs dominated this week but these bowlers defied the trend.

In Turf’s B2, Old Scotch’s Oliver Heard reaped 8/46 from 22 overs to dismantle Hope Valley for 91.

The euphoria subsided a little by stumps as the reply teetered at 4/21.

EIGHT OF THE BEST

There was another eight-for in ASCA Section Eight, where Cove’s Jayden Morton took 8/74 from 14 overs to hold Fitzroy to 177.

Led by Michael Dean with 110 not out, Cove then romped to 2/218.

SMITH IS CRISP

Raymond Smith had a fair day for Eastern Park in PDCA Grade Six.

Opening the batting, Smith smashed 166 not out of his side’s 4/266 then opened the bowling and helped himself to 3/1 from two overs as Virginia crumbled to be all out for 96.

MUHAMMAD AND ALI

Kilburn amassed a huge 8/375 in Turf’s B1, thanks mostly to Eid Muhammad’s 140 (16 fours, three sixes) and Ali Khan’s 96 (10 fours, three sixes).

It was way too many for SPOC, which ended at 202.
