It was an entertaining and action-packed local SA footy season in 2022, as some of the state’s best players clashed across the state for silverware.
Throughout the year, The Messenger has drawn from South Australia’s top leagues and regions, and worked alongside local football experts, to construct rankings of the best local footballers the state has to offer.
The Adelaide Footy League saw rankings made for divisions one and two, while a number of country competitions and regions were also covered.
2022 Keith Sims OAM Medallist Nick Favretto (Goodwood Saints), Jack Trengove (Prince Alfred OC), Sam Gray (Port District) and grand final best on ground Cooper Gaffney (Port District) all featured in the Adelaide Footy League division one list.
Jared Petrenko, Xavier Gotch and Nick Liddle (Broadview) all received a mention in the division two list as well as former South Adelaide gun Alex Cailotto (Sacred Heart OC).
Former Crow and Norwood champion Mitch Grigg (Lobethal) featured in the Hills Football League rankings alongside Dean Terlich (Uraidla Districts) and Sam Hayden (Hahndorf).
Other big names mentioned were former Magarey Medallist and Sturt gun Zane Kirkwood and Sam Colquhoun (Tanunda) in the Barossa, Light and Gawler Football Association, as former Woodville-West Torrens spearhead Jake Von Bertouch (Kadina) in the Yorke Peninsula FL rankings and former Melbourne and Collingwood player Ben Kennedy in the Great Southern Football League.
