Retirees will soon be stepping out their front door and on to the green with work officially starting on a $40 million retirement village at the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club.
A ground breaking ceremony was held at the Living Choice Flagstaff Hill development at the Memford Way course on Saturday.
Stage one of the $40 million development consists of 42 villas, to be built on the former practice fairway. It is expected to be completed by March next year.
Plans for the second stage are before Onkaparinga Council and includes more than 140 retirement apartments and a new clubhouse.
Living Choice director Ian Trengoning hoped the development would become a showpiece for the state.
“We want Living Choice Flagstaff Hill to be the hub of the community and we’re excited to be on our way,” Mr Trengoning said.
His co-director, Graham Hobbs, said many golf clubs were struggling to attract members and needed a point of difference to prosper.
