Golden Grove High School students reported by police over assault

A student involved in a disturbing fight video will face court over an alleged violent assault, as the Education Minister confirmed 20 students at the embattled school have been suspended.

The fallout over a series of disturbing fight videos involving Golden Grove High School students has escalated with one of the alleged attackers slated to face court.

SA Police on Monday confirmed a year 7 boy had been reported for assault at a northern suburbs school.

They alleged the boy was the perpetrator of a violent assault on another year 7 boy about 10.40am on September 16.

The Advertiser understands the report and alleged assault relates to the fight in which a smaller student is met with a barrage of punches as he cowers in the corner of a school toilet.

In the video the larger boy is encouraged to hit the other student by a mob of peers.

“Hit him! Go again,” they say as the older boy looks back towards the group.

“Look at him bro, he’s dead as.

“It’s called a f***ing punch, do it … one good hit.”

The larger boy then says to the smaller boy “just say sorry”, to which the frightened boy says “say sorry for what?”.

The smaller boy, after being hit to the upper body and head five times, slumps to the floor as the older student departs.

The boy, who cannot legally be named, will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

The report comes hours after Education Minister Blair Boyer appeared on ABC Radio confirming 20 students had been suspended over the fights.

Mr Boyer was fronting the media to further explain why only one of the fights had been reported to police, as reported exclusively by The Advertiser.

It was understood the fight reported to police was not the toilet fight, rather another in which two large males students brawl in the school courtyard as a small female teacher tries in vain to break it up.

It was understood one of the boys received a broken nose in the fight.

Mr Boyer said a “sense of shame” and “embarrassment” may have prevented the fights being reported to police by those involved.

In the aftermath of the fights being made public Mr Boyer said they were all matters for police and the Education Department, not just parents, would report them to police.
