Police are investigating a troubling video which has emerged in the fallout of explosive footage of fights at Golden Grove High School being made public on Thursday, as the government confirms the “perpetrators” have been suspended.

In what can only be described as confronting and distressing, the video shows a young boy being wildly assaulted by an older student as he cowers in the corner of a school toilet cubicle.

The young boy, understood to be a Year 7 who started at the school this year, is trapped between two walls, a sink and a large group of fellow students.

The group of students encourage the bigger boy, now understood be a fellow Year 7 students about a head taller than the smaller boy, to carry out the assault.

“Hit him! Go again,” they say as the older boy looks back towards the group.

“Look at him bro, he’s dead as.

“It’s called a f***ing punch, do it … one good hit.”

The larger boy, smiling towards the group, then says to the smaller boy, who appears to be crying, “just say sorry”, to which the frightened boy says “say sorry for what?”.

Moments later the older boy unleashes a barrage of five punches to the younger student’s head and upper body.

The smaller boy then slumps to the floor as the older student departs.

The video is understood to have been recorded on Monday this week and it is unclear if the school was aware of the assault prior to being contacted by The Advertiser on Thursday morning.

It was understood the video was provided to police who were investigating the matter alongside the school.

An SA Police spokesperson confirmed they were aware of four videos involving students from the school.

“No one has been charged with any offending at this time and police continue to investigate the incidents,” they said.

“Police are working with staff and students at the high school.”
school had investigated each of the matters and, where appropriate, this has resulted in disciplinary action and appropriate counselling and support.

The statement said “parents have been advised, and provided with information about their right to report the matter to police”.

Hours later, Education Minister’s Blair Boyer’s office scrambled to say that the school always reported such incidents to police.

This included the sickening attack on the young boy in the toilets, which it is understood the school only became aware of on Thursday after The Advertiser raised questions about the video.

On Friday morning, Mr Boyer confirmed on ABC Radio Adelaide that the “perpetrators” have now been suspended.

Former Liberal education minister John Gardner said it was always his expectation that serious incidents, such as assaults, were reported to police immediately by the relevant school.

Earlier in the day a series of other videos capturing vicious assaults involving students from Golden Grove High School emerged prompting Premier Peter Malinauskas to intervene.

He told The Advertiser an experienced ex-principal would be called in to assist with the administrative duties of the school and security guards would be deployed from the start of term four.

The school expanded at the start of 2022, welcoming students in Year 7 for the first time.

It saw the student cohort grow from about 1400 in the final term of 2021, to about 1800 by the end of term three this year.
