Fundraiser launched to support children and grandchildren of Troy Jacka

The family of a beloved father fatally shot “protecting his son” on Saturday night has launched a fundraiser for his 14 kids and grandkids.

The community is rallying behind the family of a grandfather who was fatally shot in Adelaide’s northern suburbs at the weekend.

Troy Jacka was allegedly shot by a gun in his possession after an altercation at a house on Stebonheath Rd at Munno Para, late Saturday night.

A struggle occurred between two men at the house around 11pm after one of them made threats with a firearm, SA Police said.

Following his tragic death, a fundraiser was launched on Monday to help support the 53-year-old’s five children and nine grandchildren.

“I’m raising money to help my children in being able to farewell their dad the way he would have wanted,” the fundraiser, by Fiona Thomson, read.

“As most people know Troy was killed and has left behind his five beloved children and nine grandchildren ... any help for his children would be greatly appreciated.”

By Tuesday morning, the fundraiser had already received $570 of its $5000 target.

On Sunday, residents described the frantic scenes on the suburban street, with some witnesses saying they heard what sounded like a car crash and then a gunshot.

One of Mr Jacka’s children, Thalia Jacka, on Monday spoke out about the horrific tragedy, saying her father would have done anything for his children.

“My dad died protecting his son, like any father would,” she said.

Ms Jacka’s father and brother Jayden were allegedly ambushed by a group at the Smithfield Hotel earlier in the night.

As a result of ongoing investigations into the incident, police arrested three people in relation to a report of a disturbance that occurred on the same night at a hotel on Main North Road, Smithfield.

A 21-year-old Blakeview woman was charged with affray and act likely to cause harm, a 22-year-old Munno Para West woman and a 31-year-old man from Campbelltown were both charged with affray.

Police allege the disturbance is linked to the Munno Para West shooting incident, however no charges have been laid in relation to the actual shooting.

The trio were also served with a three-month liquor licence barring order, excluding them from the hotel and were bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on September 9.
