A boy has been rescued after he became stuck in the mud at Mount Gambier’s Valley Lake this afternoon.
The boy’s father raised the alarm just before 3pm after the propeller on the pontoon bike he was travelling fell off and he was unable to safely return to land.
Two Mount Gambier MFS and a Mount Gambier SES units attended the call out.
SES crew leader Mark Smyth said emergency services worked together “brilliantly” to stage the rescue operation with the boy in good spirits after the ordeal.
“He had just become stuck, the propeller had broken off and it was just a matter of getting to him because he couldn’t get through the mud,” Mr Smyth said.
“Us and the MFS devised a plan, got a ladder out there to him, he climbed on ladder and made his way back to shore.”
Mr Smyth warned the public to be aware of the muddy conditions.
“It’s not very often we get called down,” he said.
“The public should just to be mindful of the area if they’re coming down here as the mud can catch you out pretty quick.”
