The man charged with causing the death of a 37-year-old South Australian man in a horrific three-truck pileup on the Glenelg Highway will remain behind bars.

Iqbal Singh appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Sunday in the first hearing of his case, which alleged he drove in a dangerous manner causing the death of a South Australian driver.

Police claimed Singh, a 30-year-old man with no fixed address, was involved in the three-truck crash at Carranballac, 68km west of Ballarat, at 5pm Wednesday, May 12.

A 37-year-old South Australian man was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other drivers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Ambulance Victoria said a man in his 30s was flown to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries, while a man in his 40s was taken to Ballarat Base Public Hospital in what appeared to be a stable condition with minor injuries.

On Saturday, May 15 Singh was charged over his alleged role in the fatal crash.

He appeared in court the next day and did not apply for bail.

Singh is set to return to Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on August 12.
