A man has died and two others hospitalised after a three truck crash on the Glenelg Highway, west of Ballarat.

A man has died and another two have been hospitalised following a three truck pileup on the Glenelg Highway, 68km west of Ballarat.

Victoria Police said emergency services were called to the fatal three truck collision at Carranballac on after 5pm on Wednesday.

One driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other drivers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Ambulance Victoria said a man in his 30s was flown to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries, while a man in his 40s was taken to Ballarat Base Public Hospital in what appeared to be a stable condition with minor injuries.

Police said the man who died was yet to be formally identified.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
