Funeral for Lobethal Bakery founder’s grandson announced in heartbreaking social post

The young son of a well-known SA business family has passed away after he was struck by a car on private property last month, shattering the local community.

The family of a young boy hit by a car on private property in Lobethal last month have revealed he has died.

In a post to social media, it was announced that the funeral of seven-year-old Matthew Trinkle will take place on Tuesday.

The young boy’s family own the well-known Lobethal Bakery, and the post on the business’ Facebook page was soon flooded with tributes.

“We will be closing all our stores from 1pm, Tues 5th Sep, to celebrate the life of Matthew (aka Pepi),” said the post.

All of Lobethal Bakery’s six locations will be closed as close family and friends come together to farewell Matthew at the Lobethal Lutheran Church.

More than 100 members of the tight-knit community also offered their heartfelt condolences in the comments on the post.

“Our love goes out to all of Pepi’s family and friends he always had such a beautiful cheeky smile. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Derek and Leanne,” one wrote.

Another added: “We are so sorry to hear this sad news condolences to you all at this sad time you are all in our thoughts and prayers️. Rest in peace Matthew. Love from the Palma family x.”

Paula Brosnan wrote: “So very sorry for your loss. Deepest sympathies, the community is hugging you and your family.”

It is understood that the schoolboy was left in critical condition following an accident at a property in Lobethal, a small town in the Adelaide Hills, on August 21.

Emergency service were called to a Valley View Lane address at 4.30pm, with Matthew being air-lifted from the scene.

It is also understood one of the boy’s family members was driving the car when he was hit.

A neighbour told The Advertiser at the time that the street was a “close-knit neighbourhood”.

“They’re beautiful people,” he said. “We’re all feeling for them.”

It is not known when Matthew died, with the family previously asking for privacy as they navigated a “critical stage of this tragedy” back on August 23.

Lobethal Bakery has been a family run business since its inception in 1975.

According the bakery’s website, it is currently run by brothers Albert, Peter and Paul Trinkle.

“The three brothers, with their wives and children, join together their ideas, creativity and passion to develop and refine top-quality products.”

The bakery has shopfronts in Lobethal, Woodside, Stirling, Mt Barker and Balhannah.
