I forced my bridesmaids to put on weight so I look better than them at my wedding

“I always felt like Jan Brady in the middle – I wasn’t as hot and popular as my older sister and I wasn’t as cute and fun as my younger sister.  AITA?”

What not to do at a wedding

For brides on their wedding day, they really want all eyes on them. A bride admitted just how far she would go, to ensure that her bridesmaids didn’t pull focus!

The bride confesses that every morning she was hiding something in her bridesmaids smoothies. Unbeknownst to her sisters, bride-to-be Penny* added high-calorie protein to their drinks, all while claiming it was a weight-loss smoothie.

Once planning got underway her inner Bridezilla took over and started obsessing about every tiny detail, “it was pretty much all I spoke about.” Known only as Penny, the bride-to-be asked her three sisters to be her bridesmaids. She admits while she’s close to her sisters, they have always been competitive.

“I don’t want to be reminded that I was the plain sister”

The bride shares: “I always felt like Jan Brady in the middle – I wasn’t as hot and popular as my older sister and I wasn’t as cute and fun as my younger sister.”

To add fuel to the Bridezilla's flames, she and her new fiancé lived in the same house with her sisters all throughout their engagement. And under the pressures of planning a wedding, a desperate Penny became “obsessed” with outshining her blood-related competitors.

“I set about making sure my sisters looked as ordinary as possible on my big day – well, as much as I could without being totally obvious about it,” Penny reveals.

She didn't just want them fat. She wanted them ugly, too.

She chose the dress colour, neon yellow, which worn on her fair-skinned and blonde sisters would have them looking “washed out and slightly ill.”

That wasn’t enough for the bride, “Every morning I insisted on making breakfast smoothies for everyone,” said Penny. “I told them I wanted us all to look our best on the big day, so I was making them this special slimming smoothie.”

Penny continues, “I was buying a weight loss shake and emptying the contents, filling it instead with a mega-weight gain protein powder I found in a body-building shop. At first I went easy, but by the month before the wedding I was adding triple the prescribed amount into Maggie and Charlie’s smoothie, leaving my own simply as fruit and coconut water.”

The bride's wish was granted!

The bride got what she wanted, the day went off without a hitch and she looks at the photos fondly knowing her sisters had to alter their dresses to fit their growing waistlines.

"I never thought for a moment on my wedding day that I wasn't the centre of attention or the most important person in the room," she wrote.

But did the sister ever come clean to her sisters? “I sometimes feel a twinge of guilt that I’m standing there glowing and gorgeous in my bridal gown, and my sisters are looking washed out and chubby. But mostly I feel happy,” Penny says.

The now newlywed says they have since lost the weight they unknowingly gained for her wedding, but on occasion ask her for a breakfast smoothie.
