Three South Australian wineries have secured their spot on a list of the world’s 100 best vineyards.
McLaren Vale’s d’Arenberg (32), Penfolds Magill Estate (37), and Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley (84) have been honoured in the The World’s Best Vineyards 2024 awards – the only Australian entries in the global list.
D’Arenberg was also named the Best Vineyard in Australasia.
The prestigious list is compiled by the World’s Best Vineyards Academy, which is made up of nearly 500 wine aficionados, sommeliers, and luxury travel correspondents from across the globe.
The judges said d’Arenberg “certainly lives up to its billing as ‘more than just a cellar door’”, highlighted by its “eye-catching, modernist Cube among the vines”.
Penfolds was recognised by judges as a “giant of Australian wine” with a Shiraz-dominated Grange blend that is “coveted around the world”.
It’s the sixth consecutive year that Seppeltsfield has been honoured on the list, and winery spokeswoman Lauren Mudge said they were thrilled.
“This is fantastic global recognition for our team, dedicated to delivering a truly world class, wine tourism experience,” Ms Mudge said.
Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, in Rioja, Spain, took out the top spot, ahead of Vik, in Millahue, Chile and Creation, in Cape Floral Kingdom, South Africa.
