An Adelaide Hills winery has taken out the top prize for the world’s best cabernet at a prestigious global competition.

Amadio Wines was awarded first place in the Cabernet Sauvignon category at the AWC Vienna awards in Austria, one of the largest wine competitions in the world.

The winery secured the top gong for its 2021 Reserve Range Sebastien’s Cabernet Sauvignon, which retails for $150 a bottle.

A jury of more than 200 international wine experts, using a rigious blind tasting process, rated Amadio’s cab sav as the year’s best.

Almost 11,000 wines from over 1400 producers across 41 countries competed at the awards, and trophy winners hailed from countries including Cyprus, China and Italy.

Amadio Wines managing director Daniel Amadio said he was “overjoyed and humbled” by the honours.

“Every bottle we create is a labour of love, a reflection of our commitment to quality and our deep connection to the land,” said Mr Amadio, whose vineyard is located between Kersbrook and Williamstown.

“These awards are a celebration of our team’s hard work and the support of our loyal customers who inspire us every day.

“At Amadio Wines, we believe that wine is more than just a drink; It’s an experience, a memory, a connection. Each sip tells a story, and we are grateful to share ours with you.”

Both their Single Vineyard Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and the Reserve Range Sebastien’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 also received gold medals at the competition.
