The hospitality group behind Part Time Lover are launching a new bistro they describe as an “extension” of their popular CBD diner.
Sofia on Hutt Street will officially open on Monday, with co-owner Josh Baker promising a fun, relaxed eatery showcasing a diverse, European-focused menu.
“It’s a place for anyone to come at any time, for any reason. Whether that’s for a coffee or a cocktail, or a big long lunch or an intimate dinner,” said Mr Baker, whose team also owns Greenhill Rd hotspots Whistle and Flute, and Down The Road.
“We just wanted a European vibe and a menu for everyone. We love that style of food.”
Named after the late mother of co-owner, John Savva, the new restaurant will offer “simple flavours and a Mediterranean way of eating”, according to chef Stewart Wesson.
“It’s got to be fun, it can’t be a boring meal. There’s a lot of sharing, different takes on things – so it’s very different,” he said. “It’s also a bigger menu that can cater to a lot of people.”
Among the highlights are their fermented pita bread, the Sofia salami, a Sicilian sashimi dish and the house-made haloumi with honey and shaved persimmon.
While it’s been a tough period for the hospitality businesses, Mr Baker said he had confidence in the local industry – and he believes Hutt St can become the “new food and beverage mecca” of Adelaide.
“This was a no-brainer for us. It just ticks all the boxes for us. Although at the moment there are some hard times, I believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Mr Baker, whose team purchased the building which houses Sofia.
“And we just love this street. We think it’s the best street in the CBD with some amazing operators – we just want to add to it.”
