Duke of Brunswick
The DOB, as it’s affectionately known, is the self-proclaimed home of gluten-free dining in Adelaide. The kitchen has been 100 per cent gluten-free since 2019, meaning all your pub favourites – from a classic chicken schnitzel, to beer battered fish and chips, and a hot dog with the lot – are available and safe to eat. The menu has plenty of vegan and dairy free options but doesn’t skimp on taste or variety. Patrons can tuck into a Thai green curry, bangers and mash, and there’s even a nasi goreng dish. Their top chefs work hard to come up with creative ways to deliver the food you’ve been missing, and the venue has been accredited by Coeliac Australia.

Coccobello
At this Italian institution, they believe everyone deserves to enjoy great food. The team delivers on this philosophy with an entire menu dedicated to gluten-free options, plus vegan and vegetarian, while maintaining authentic Italian flavours. Known for their delicious pasta, everything from the seafood spaghetti, ragu alla genovese, puttanesca and their famous handmade gnocchi is available gluten-free. There’s also 12 pizzas with GF bases made in-house and even their traditional dessert, tiramisu, is suitable for those in their post-gluten era.

Golden Boy
More than a decade since opening, Golden Boy remains one of Adelaide’s most trendy Thai eateries, situated in an iconic East End location. Best of all for gluten-free diners, you can tuck into virtually anything on their expansive menu, such as the fried chicken and their much-lauded crispy sweet and sour eggplant. Their knowledgeable staff can cater to all your needs and tailor dishes to your dietary whims, though it helps to let them know when you’re booking. Hot tip: try their Tuk Tukfeed me option to sample the freshest and most flavoursome plates that Golden Boy has to offer.
309 North Terrace, Adelaide
Kenny’s Kilburn
Would you like gluten-free fries with that? At Kenny’s it is a given because absolutely everything on the menu is free from gluten. Kenny’s, which launched in the CBD before upgrading and moving to Kilburn, is named after Kennebec potatoes, grown by producers in Balhannah. The spuds are used to make the house specialty, fresh-cut hot chips made from scratch on the premises. Other items on the menu – which is free from dairy and seed oils as well as gluten – include chicken nuggets and tenders, burgers and cookies. It’s open Wednesday to Sunday, 11.30am to 8.30pm.

Ruby’s Organic Cafe
This beloved Hills eatery, on the main road in Stirling, is billed as a “food allergy haven” – so gluten-free patrons can rest assured they will be looked after. Their dedicated, gluten-free kitchen serves up a wide array of classic breakfast and brunch offerings from eggs benedict and French crepes to smashed avocado and ham and cheese toasties. There’s even a chicken schnitzel dish, a bacon and egg roll (with surprisingly soft bread) plus several daily specials. Locals will also tell you that the homemade caramel slice is a big winner, which is just one option among their range of baked desserts.
