AH-SAI-YEE
Stores in North Adelaide, Westfield Marion & James Place in the city
This late-night acai hotspot, first launched on O’Connell St in 2023, has quickly blossomed with two new locations including one in the CBD.
Their acai is among the healthiest around using the highest-grade pulp available. Their namesake bowl, the AH-SAI-YEE, features generous amounts of granola, apple, banana, strawberry and chia seeds, while their range of pitaya bowls (aka dragon fruit) are also popular.
For those with more of a sweet tooth, Instagrammable offerings on the menu include bueno, biscoff and nutella bowls, which you can top with chocolate, peanut butter, or pistachio sauce, among others.
Acaico
Morphett Vale and Grange
Their slogan is “Psycho for acai” – and Adelaide has been going crazy for their tasty desserts since launch last year.
Part of a new wave of trendy, late-night acai bars, there’s something for everyone on the creative menu. Among the fan favourites are the indulgent Do’nutella’ Versace (Acaico signature granola, Nutella, choc chips, strawberries and banana), and the Gold Digger (with crumbed biscoff and biscoff spread).
Alternatively, customers can build their own bowl or dine out on their acai sundaes such as the Murder On The Dancefloor, and If You Like Pina Coladas.
Bomdia Bowls
2B Moseley St, Glenelg
Owner Dale Brewster tried acai for the first time during a surfing holiday in Hawaii – and soon after Bomdia was born.
Believed to be one of Adelaide’s first acai bars, among their best-selling items is the PB Bowl, made with homemade peanut butter, coconut, banana, rice milk and dates topped with granola, banana, strawberries and crushed peanuts.
Ideal for the health-conscious, their products are organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and with no refined sugar. The extensive menu also features several brunch dishes such as avo on toast and salad bowls, along with a wide range of smoothies blended with coconut water.
Mouthfuls
10/52 Hindley St, Adelaide
This hidden gem in the arcade between Adelaide Railway Station and Hindley St has garnered a loyal following over the years, thanks to its nutritious acai bowls, which come in traditional, classic and chia coconut flavours.
These well-priced offerings are stacked with colourful fruit – sliced berries, bananas and Kiwi fruit – on a base of homemade acai nicecream. Simply delish.
Beyond acai, customers also rave about their array of healthy cold-press juices, superfood smoothies and various salad bowls and pudding cups, perfect for a takeaway meal when you’re on the go.
Macaw Energy Foods
126 Goodwood Rd, Goodwood
This popular food truck just opened their bricks and mortar store, serving up colourful, wholesome bowls packed with various fruits and toppings.
But it’s their acai berries that keep us coming back; smooth, rich and sourced directly from the Amazon rainforest. Brazilian-born owners Daniel and Cintia know a thing or two about the dessert and wanted to bring that authentic South American flavour to Adelaide.
They’ve certainly succeeded, with their beautifully arranged bowls and smoothies a hit with locals and visitors to the area.
