Fancy a carp belly taco? Or perhaps some loaded mac ‘n’ cheese, dumplings or paella?

Whatever the craving, South Australian food lovers will be able to hit the spot with a range of eats in one location over 10 days: Tasting Australia’s Town Square.

Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga will again come alive from April 28-May 7 when it transforms. It’ll be the first year for Goolwa Beach restaurant Kuti Shack, which will be slinging seafood such as pipis, bluefin tuna, prawns and an underutulised ingredient – carp.

“We are bringing a mini version of our restaurant to Adelaide,” said co-owner Vanessa Button. “We’re showcasing South Australian seafood and using native ingredients.” Carp will come in the form of carp belly tacos, she said.

“We love Tasting Australia and have always enjoyed going to events and the Square – this is a bucket list thing.”

While 2023 won’t be Tony Mitolo’s first Tasting Australia rodeo – he brought his cult Pizzateca restaurant to the Square back in 2018 – it will be the debut for his One Sneaky Cheetah brand, which has diners in both Ridleyton and Melrose Park.

“We’re super excited,” he said. “We’re doing an exclusive special for the event, which is a Blue Swimmer crab sauce, topped with Spencer Gulf prawns and parsley. It’s an homage to seafood pizza.

“The event itself as an experience is a drawcard for so many people, and has such a flow-on effect for businesses like ours.”

Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison said organisers were expecting “bumper crowds”.

“Free to enter, Town Square is the heart of Tasting Australia bringing tens of thousands of people together,” she said.

Town Square is open from 11am daily throughout the fest, and also features a range of family-friendly entertainment, bars and hosted tastings.
