Forget beer goggles – Adelaide’s newest bar will have you donning a blindfold for a whole new kind of drinking experience.
Hindley St venue Nyx, named after the mythological Greek goddess of the night, is hosting what is believed to be the first blindfolded cocktail tasting in Adelaide.
Venue manager and mixologist Paul Kwok said the interactive, hosted experience takes cocktails to the “next level”.
The $100 blindfolded tasting for two people will have participants share three cocktails in a half-hour block.
For those who don’t like sharing, it'll be $200 for three cocktails each within an hour – but guests don’t have to skol their drinks, Mr Kwok says.
“They can taste and then finish it after the session,” he said.
While cocktails served will be a surprise, some of the concoctions on offer include the Demeter, with cocoa-puff infused rye whiskey, Dr Black coffee liqueur, sweet vermouth and chocolate; and the gin-based Nyx, with lime, grapefruit soda and peel.
Vanna Nguyen, 37, said she believed the blindfolded tasting offered a point of difference.
“If you go there with your partner or on a first date, it’s like an icebreaker,” she said. “It’s fun and different.”
The bar on level 1/116 Hindley St is open Wed-Sun nights from 6pm-2am.
