Josh Rivers of popular Brighton cafe CREAM launches latest hospitality project

One of Adelaide’s most adventurous cafe and hospo names has launched his latest venture, boasting up to 20 different kinds of doughnuts – and “slabwiches”.

A new specialty doughnut shop is set to rise in Brighton in September.

Landough’s is the fourth hospitality project for Josh Rivers of popular Brighton cafe CREAM; Remy’s Deep Dish Pizza and Bar; and Diamond Burger. It’ll open adjacent CREAM, in the former Delicia Acai Bar spot at 2/49 Jetty Rd.

“Landough’s will be a specialty donut (sic) shop that will sell 15-20 styles of filled doughnuts, along with a creation we’re calling “slabwiches”,” Rivers wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday evening.

The slabwich is a savoury doughnut sandwich, Rivers said, and the menu will have 2-3 flavours rotating monthly.

“We’ll be baking a loaf of doughnut bread and cutting a slice about an inch and a half thick. Then we’ll make a small incision in the middle of the slab, and stuff it full of ingredients,” he said. “The outside of the slab will then be buttered and toasted.”

Coffee, too, will offer a point of difference.

“We obviously have CREAM right next door which is pretty reputable for its specialty coffee, so Landough’s will go a little more Starbucks-esque to create a point of difference,” Rivers said. “Think caramel frappaccinos, whipped cream, thickshakes … but still with an emphasis on quality.”

A riff off his one-year-old son’s name, Lando, Landough’s will bake the doughnuts fresh daily and close once sold out.

“The shop is called Landough’s because it obviously fits so well as a play on words with our son’s name, but it’s also because everything I’ve done over the years – even though I’ve been in business for eight (years) now and he’s only one – has always been for him,” he wrote.
