‘Deliciously decadent’: We’ve sampled Adelaide’s most expensive cocktail – and here’s the verdict

Cosi’s social media post about overpriced drinks got everyone talking, so we went in search of Adelaide’s most expensive cocktail. Was it worth every sip?

We try Adelaide's most expensive cocktail

Adelaide’s most expensive cocktail is a bit rich – because it has edible 24-carat gold flakes, no less.

The Royal Thai Lark Martini is on the menu at new CBD restaurant Thai Room on Victoria Square.

At $78 a pop, it is believed to be Adelaide’s most expensive cocktail.

Which isn’t really all that much, when you consider that the Shangri-La in Sydney once offered a $10,000 Diamond Martini at its Blu Bar.

For that price it would want to come with a diamond, and it did – a one carat diamond on the side. It would have been perfect for a proposal.

But back to the Royal Thai Lark Martini, which we found when we decided to put the call out for Adelaide’s most expensive drink. We did so after Andrew “Cosi” Costello arked up about paying $42 for two drinks – a beer and a glass of rose – at an undisclosed location.

The post on South Aussie with Cosi’s social media went viral.

After a bit of detective work, we worked out the bar he was referring to was, in fact, Coopers Alehouse at Adelaide Airport.

At $78, the Royal Thai Lark Martini costs less than two rounds of Cosi’s airport drinks – which, by the way, were an imperial pint of beer and a large poor of wine.

Described as “an extraordinary fusion of rich flavours and luxurious ingredients”, the Thai Room’s cocktail is a heady mix of ingredients including Lark Classic Cask Tasmanian Whisky, Handcrafted Peanut Butter Liqueur, Premium Madagascar Vanilla Extract, organic honey from Tasmania, dark chocolate bitters. It has a salted peanut butter rim and those gold flakes.

Our taste tester, yours truly, was impressed. It is like the love child of Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups and the Espresso Martini, rumoured to have been invented for supermodel Naomi Campbell. She was said to be tired after a photo shoot and wanted a drink that would both wake her up and mess her up.

The Royal Thai Lark Martini is deliciously decadent. The price tag might make it a bit extravagant, but it would be perfect for a celebration such as an 18th.

But be warned, if this martini is going to be your first legal drink, you may never be able to go back to Passion Pop.

It’s also pretty good if you’re planning on a proposal – just BYO diamond.

The Advertiser paid for the martini.
