South Australian music fans have been left fuming after Adelaide was snubbed by not one, but three major acts this week.

American punk rock heavyweights Green Day was the first to enrage fans with the announcement of their Saviors stadium tour, which will kick off in March next year.

The punk rock trio, who were forced to cancel the previously announced tour in February 2020 due to the pandemic, will open at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on March 1, then head to Engie Stadium in Sydney on March 3 before rounding out their Australian leg at CBUS Super Stadium, Gold Coast on March 5.

Fan immediately flocked to the comments section of the announcement to demand why the band had skipped “half the country”.

“You mean an east coast Australian tour,” one user wrote.

“Half the country is missing.”

“That’s only half of Australia,” commented another.

“How about adding two more shows in Perth and Adelaide? That would cover it.

“Times are tough and travel costs are ridiculous, especially if you want a family to attend your concert. Disappointing.”

Green Day last played Adelaide in 2017. Before that it was 2014. They also played shows in 2009 and 2005.

Dua Lipa was next to outrage South Aussie fans, when she released the dates and locations of her Radical Optimism World Tour.

Dua will make the trip Down Under for just show performances – Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on March 20 and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on March 26.

She then leaves to perform in New Zealand on April 2 before flying across the globe.

Fans were quick to slam the performer’s plans.

“Another dawn, another day … where Perth and Adelaide miss out,” one user wrote.

However, hope remains as more tour dates are expected to be announced soon.

“Only two dates is crazy,” wrote one fan.

American big gig superstars The Killers will also bypass Adelaide during their Australian concerts in November and December.

This week the group announced their surprise return to Australia, two years after their Imploding The Mirage tour.

Fans in Sydney and Melbourne can choose between two gigs. They will also play their first ever show in Townsville before performing in Brisbane.

Big acts are known to fly over Adelaide because we’ve gained a reputation that can break a tour.

Back in 2020, Ticketek managing director Phil King said Adelaide was known as a “slow city”.

“Promoters say Adelaide is risky because people don’t buy tickets like they do in the rest of the country,” he told The Advertiser.

“Instead of buying them early at the initial sale, it sort of slowly drip feeds along. Then when you get close to the show it’s often not hitting the numbers that the promoters need it to.

“Adelaide can make or break a whole tour. That’s not a great reputation for us to have.”

The back-to-back snubs rub salt in the wounds of South Australian music fans, with big acts like Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Harry Styles and The Killers also leaving Adelaide off their tour schedules.
