From birthdays, to buck’s nights to a girls’ night out or a uni pub crawl, they were the go-to joints in Adelaide when you needed to let loose.
At Sugar, you never know which mid-2000s band would rock up – a Hilltop Hood, Magic Dirt, The Living End – or the guy from Wolfmother – for Big Day Out after-parties.
And Heaven was the first club thousands of South Aussies headed to as soon as they turned 18 – and you could find Courtney Act, or Killing Heidi.
The unwritten rule was, 9pm was too early to arrive, 2am was too early to leave.
With both clubs now permanently closed, The Advertiser has dug into our photo archives to create a gallery of pictures we took over the years. See anyone you know?

In case you missed it, we’ve previously unearthed other old photos from Heaven, from the 2010s.
