Best known for playing the seductive Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey film trilogy, this is Jamie Dornan like you’ve never seen him before.

The handsome Hollywood actor is shooting his new TV thriller, The Tourist, around South Australia, and the first photos have been released from the set.

They show a rugged Dornan with a thick beard and a tight crew cut, looking pensive as he plays a British man “desperately searching for his identity” in the SA outback.

It’s the first look at The Tourist, a BBC One and Stan Original six-part miniseries which also stars Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line of Duty, Roadkill), Alex Dimitriades (The End, The Cry), and Adelaide’s Damon Herriman (Mindhunter, Justified).

Best known for playing Charles Manson in Once Upon A Time... in Hollywood, Herriman has replaced Hugo Weaving, who dropped out after a “scheduling conflict”.

Shot around SA by Emmy and Golden Globe-winning production company Two Brothers Pictures, the series was created and written by Harry and Jack Williams.

Described as the biggest TV show ever made in SA, the series follows a man (Dornan) who is on a quest to unlock the secrets of his identity before those who are trying to kill him catch up with him.

The Tourist is still being filmed in the Flinders Ranges, with the 17-week shoot expected to employ 270 local cast and crew, and almost 850 extras.

SA has become a hotspot for filming since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, with Hollywood hunk Zac Efron also shooting his latest film, Gold, in the SA outback late last year.

Irishman Dornan arrived in Adelaide last month with his wife, musician Amelia Warner, and their three young daughters.

The family have been out and about enjoying the state’s COVID-free lifestyle, most recently touring Kangaroo Island, while last week, Dornan popped into Hyde Park’s Blue Lagoon Float and Spa this week for a floatation therapy session.

Warner has shared photos on social media of the family driving on the beach at Silver Sands at Aldinga and bushwalking in Morialta Conservation Park, while she also took their children to The Wiggles’ Adelaide concert at the Entertainment Centre.

They later dined at Grenfell St cafe Uniqorn Eats, where Dornan and his girls tried the eatery’s famous rainbow-coloured cheese toasties.
