The star of the movie adaptation of the hit book 50 Shades of Grey will join a star-studded cast to film the biggest TV series ever shot in South Australia.
Jamie Dornan, who played Christian Grey in the trilogy of films, will be joining Hugo Weaving, Danielle Macdonald and Shalom Brune-Franklin for a Stan Original called The Tourist.
The six-part thriller will be filmed in SA by Bafta-nominated and Emmy and Golden Globe-winning production company Two Brothers Pictures.
Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said the series would be the biggest television production ever to be made in South Australia.
“The Tourist is a major coup for South Australia, creating over 120 jobs for local cast and crew, and injecting an estimated $12.1 million into our local economy,” Mr Pisoni said.
“The production will also create jobs and economic benefit outside the screen sector, engaging the services of around 75 businesses across regional South Australia in a broad range of sectors, including construction, transport, accommodation, hospitality and more.”
Chief executive of the South Australian Film Corporation, Kate Croser, said it was an exciting announcement for the state’s film industry.
“We are thrilled Lisa has once again partnered with Stan, and the Emmy-award winning producers of Fleabag, to bring this major new series to South Australia, which is set to be a stellar showcase of South Australian talent and locations for audiences around the world,” Ms Croser said.
Minister Pisoni said the production was the first to secure the Federal Government’s Location Incentive “further cementing South Australia’s international reputation as a world class filming and production destination.”
The production will be looking to cast local extras, including in regional SA, with further announcements expected to be made in coming months.
