Hollywood heart throb Zac Efron has revealed a behind-the-scenes look of the made-for-TV film he’s shooting in the South Australian Outback.

Captioning the picture of himself holding his mobile aloft in a makeshift tent in the middle of nowhere with “No signal out here in the desert”, Efron dropped the image to his 44 million Instagram followers this morning.

It’s the first look at Gold – billed as a taut thriller about greed, centring on two men who find an enormous gold nugget while travelling through the Outback – since it started filming. The thriller is the 33-year-old’s first project since arriving in Australia earlier this year. It also stars Susie Porter and Animal Kingdom’s Anthony Hayes who will direct the movie, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Polly Smyth.

At the time South Australian Film Corp CEO Kate Croser said it was another example of SA becoming the next hot spot for film production.

“It’s definitely testament to our crews and talent and locations,” she said.

Efron arrived in Adelaide last month, spending two weeks in the city hanging out at night spots such as Downtown and Cry Baby and enjoying some retail therapy in Rundle Mall grabbing a pair of R.M. Williams classic Comfort Craftsman boots, before production moved to Leigh Creek in regional SA.

The High School Musical star is expected to be in SA for the next few weeks before returning to Byron Bay for Christmas.
