Bunkered down in their “love nest” getting to know newborn daughter Marlie-Mae Rose, Bachelor couple Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne say selling their baby story was never an option.

The couple welcomed the arrival of a healthy baby girl at Sydney’s Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick last Wednesday, June 19.

“This is something that is really personal so this is not something that either of us for even one second thought we would do via a magazine or anything like that,” Byrne told Confidential.

“We are happy we got to share it with our family and get to do this on our terms, which is really nice and how it should be.”

The couple could have earned in excess of six figures for the exclusive on their baby story but chose to share the first pics on social media.

“It is better than I ever thought it could be,” Johnson said. “To have that first hold and look in the eyes is just beautiful beyond words.”

The couple met and fell in love when Johnson was The Bachelor and Byrne a contestant on the popular Channel 10 dating show.

He proposed to Byrne earlier this year when they were on holiday in Fiji.

Asked if fatherhood had changed him already, Johnson said: “Two big changes in me is the fact sleep has become a lot rarer and I am definitely a lot more emotional now. I have cried more in the last four days than I have in the last four years. It is quite overwhelming knowing that this little baby girl is someone that you created with someone that you love so much.”

The name Marlie is one the couple fell in love with while Mae and Rose are names of their grandparents.

They took their daughter home last Thursday, a day after her birth. Their family is completed by three-legged pet dog, Buster.

“I was just so ready to meet this little girl and she is just the best, so divine and precious,” Byrne, 33, said.

“My biggest fear was that we were going to get home and it was going to be a struggle but we are lucky because Matt’s mum has stayed with us the last four days and we had the nursery pretty ready before she came. She has been textbook good. I am sure that maybe we will have our hurdles down the track but so far it has been divine, exactly what I hoped it could be.”
