FIVEaa duo David Penberthy and Will Goodings have retained their mantle as Adelaide’s No. 1 breakfast show, while Mix 102.3’s Ali Clarke continues to flatline in the latest radio ratings results.

High-profile presenter Clarke’s struggles in the early-morning timeslot show no signs of abating, with her eponymous program stuck in sixth overall in the year’s penultimate survey.

Mix 102.3 is behind SAFM, which also maintained the status quo with 8.5 share points in fifth position, just over a week after it axed Andrew “Cosi” Costello from its breakfast show.

While Mark “Soda” Soderstrom is expected to join SAFM’s revamped breakfast program, there’s growing speculation Costello is being courted to join Clarke on Mix 102.3 in a bid to lift ratings.

At the other end of the spectrum, Penberthy and Goodings retained top spot, finishing with 15.2 share points, up 0.6 and comfortably clear of ABC Adelaide’s Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz (12.8).

Triple M’s Mark Ricciuto, Chris Dittmar and Laura O’Callaghan were the other big winners, leapfrogging Nova 919’s outgoing Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton into first place on the FM dial and third overall in the coveted timeslot with 10.8 share points, up 1.4 on the last survey.

The trio are slightly ahead of Harvey and Stapleton (10.3 share points) who suffered a fall of 1.6 – the biggest in the early-morning shift.

The pair are making the switch to Nova Melbourne next year, though they’ll still be heard from 6am-7am each morning in Adelaide.

Mix 102.3 is now Adelaide’s top-rating station overall with 11.5, followed by Nova 919, FIVEaa, SAFM, ABC Adelaide, Triple M and Cruise 1323.

Former top-rating Mix host Jodie Oddy and ex-SEN sports radio presenter Andrew Hayes will take the reins of a new-look Nova Adelaide brekkie program from 7-9am weekdays.

There also continues to be strong speculation Costello could find another home at Mix 102.3 as soon as next year. Whispers abound he’s in talks with the station, which has been languishing in the breakfast ratings under new host Clarke in 2022.

Mix has denied a change is in the works and insist the show will continue with Clarke and offsiders Eddie Bannon and Shane Lowe in 2023.
