The Thought That Counts | Adelaide Fringe 2021 review

An interactive event inspired by old school, 90s pixel video games – think Leisure Suit Larry meets Pac-Man.

The Arcade Theatre at Black Box Theatres, Adelaide Botanic Garden

Until March 21

It’s just you and a large screen in this interactive arcade game. Three large buttons on the side of a screen allow you to respond to a series on questions and scenarios.

Choose between the adults only or PG option and make your way through an adventure involving curious critters and moral dilemmas.

Will you scoff the strawb? Will you devour the rabbit? The story, game and music is by Josh Kernich (Big Man Little Stories) and the arcade theatre was built by Tom Kitney (Hartstone-Kitney Productions).

Aesthetically, it’s old school, 90s pixel video game inspired. Think Leisure Suit Larry meets Pac-Man. It’s short (just 10 minutes) and very sweet, funny and endearing in it’s simplicity.

The moral at the end of the choose your own adventure is touching. All tickets are two-for-one so you can play solo or bring a friend for free.
