Sam Taunton has the relaxed charm and knack for seamless audience interaction of a comedian who has spent years in the game.
Effortlessly cool, if a little self-deprecating, it’s easy to see why Taunton’s star has been rising over the past few years with a sprinkling of radio slots and appearances on The Project. Cheekbones aside, he’s got an energy that begs for attention. Just ask the old mate in the front row, who couldn’t help but call out midway through almost every gag as though he was in direct conversation with Taunton. At one point he looked poised to jump up on stage with Taunton.
Unfazed by the harmless heckling, Taunton delivered a consistently funny, fresh set following a tight storytelling structure that tied up in a neat bow by the close.
From dreaded encounters in the Apple store, to feminist musings from the male perspective and a little gentle boomer-riffing, Taunton is woke but not annoyingly so, and can deliver a penis joke without seeming like a creep.
What more could you ask for?
