Ross Noble: On the Go
Comedy
Rating: *****
Babylon at The Garden of Unearthly Delights
Until March 20
With an hour of rampant pandemonium that will make you cry-laugh until you doubt your own sanity, Ross Noble remains the king of off-kilter comedy.
Throw absolutely every preconceived notion of what “good stand-up” entails out the window at this year’s Noble offering; the man just continues to rewrite the book.
On The Go wildly darts from hairy circus performing babies, to guinea pigs on a spit, to a tale of “forbidden thumb love”. But there are no spoilers here.
There’s no telling what each night will bring, given Noble’s set is completely comprised of audience riffing and his own bizarre tangents.
He’ll begin to tell a story in extreme detail with perfectly-concocted imagery, get distracted, and end up wildly off track, to the audience’s utter delight.
This unruly zigzag of a journey is all part of the fun, and you’ll find yourself laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of it all, while marvelling at Noble’s immeasurable talent as an improviser.
Part giant man toddler, part deranged curly-haired madman, Noble has an odd charm about him that simply radiates from the stage and keeps you hanging on to every eccentric word.
Strap in, but be warned: He will hold you captive. If the show runs overtime like ours did and you try to sneak out unnoticed, he will notice. And he will be ruthless.
