Hell’s Kitchen at Rhino Room

If only Lauren Bok didn’t eat a sausage roll that wasn’t meant for her, then maybe she wouldn’t be constantly searching for perfection and left bitterly disappointed whenever she couldn’t reach it.

Bok is a middle child, who worked at McDonald’s when she was 15 and fell in love with gardening during the lockdown.

Instantly relatable, charismatic and doubled-over-gasping-for-air funny, Bok held the audience in the palm of her hand as soon as she opened with a burlesque number that she said was meant to get the show started at rock bottom.

Although it didn’t (the number was quite good), it did allow the audience to breathe and laugh with Bok, before she began a stellar stand-up performance.

Bok did occasionally make references that seemed to go over the heads of the audience and broke the momentum of the show.

Sprinkled with small amounts of audience participation (think throwing hula hoops over an inflatable penis), mime performances and many, many jokes, It’s a Long Way To The Bok was overall an amazing experience.
