Boboli @ GOUD
Until March 14
Scottish physicist-turned-magician Kevin Quantum returns to the Adelaide Fringe, much to the relief of legions of adoring fans, and affirming the judgment of the organisers to put him in the enormous Boboli.
We’re not long underway when he delivers the first body-blow with an astounding trick that includes each and every member of the audience.
“Unbelievable!” cried the punter in front of me, evidently a Quantum virgin. “Burn the witch!” said his companion.
With his science background, numerology plays a substantial role. Some of his feats are simply little-known facts, like the magic square, but others defy the imagination.
He has a clever knack of breaking up a number of separate acts to make them appear connected, compounding the apparent complexity of the whole.
And the patter, with an appealing Edinburgh accent, is gold – or perhaps that most elusive substance of all, dark matter. The show has a short run, so storm the doors.
