Junior Detective Collective: The Mystery of the Golden Scoop

Children’s Events / VIC

Rating: ****

The AmphiTheatre, Black Box Theatres, Adelaide Botanic Garden and Watch From Home

Until March 7

The mad hatter MC invites us all to “share the love of spending time together” and revel in the chance to choose our own adventure.

It’s quite a spectacle, with cheerful, colourful costumes for crazy characters, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Botanic Gardens.

There are “songs to lift the spirits” with well-choreographed dance moves, as well as snot, bum and fart gags to keep the audience entertained.

The format induces heckling from the more outgoing, attention-seeking members of the audience, but it’s all part of the fun. Children enjoy getting involved, searching for clues and making decisions.

The Juicy Orange theatre troupe is occasionally upstaged by a passing ambulance, jet plane, or flock of birds in the outdoor amphitheatre but that really only adds to the experience.

Ideally suited to children aged six to 12, but my four-year-old loved it too.
