We all love Kmart! How could you not? The bargains, the strange wall art, the questionable skin care products.
But someone needs to tell Jason Pestell that three shows about the shopping chain – Kmart to the Rescue follows Kmart is Life and Kmart’s The Greatest Shop Man – might be pushing it.
The Kmart gimmick has its moments, especially in the final 15 minutes of the act, however, the constant complaining about retail customers becomes tiring after 50 minutes.
Pestell delivers a show which feels spontaneous and relies heavily on audience interaction, which causes the performance to lose its momentum when participants don’t give him the banter he is looking for.
His humour, as a whole, lacks dimension, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the right crowd. If you like your stand-up raw and straight to the point, you will be sure to have an enjoyable time.
