The whole idea, a mime tribute to the exquisite vocalist Blossom Dearie, was so archetypally Fringey, I took the train to Glanville.
At the last minute Mark Metaphor decided to perform outside the venue, among the tables of drinkers and diners.
From his suitcase he produced costumes and props for almost incomprehensible routines. There was a lot of silly walking. Towards the end he danced passionately with a blow-up doll.
Eternal love? No, he let her down.
As Blossom Dearie sang Send in the Clowns, he took a big pair of scissors to an large inflated clown, stabbed it and squeezed the life out of it.
He dragged the corpse around the tables then collapsed weeping on the rubbery remains. It was Shakespearean.
I’d come so far, I stayed for the burlesque show hosted by Lady Cara.
The young man who cycled through Metaphor’s show was just an added extra.
