Crafting a 50-minute show which enables any mistake or hiccup to be viewed as part of the concept is pure genius.
When that concept is a web of carefully constructed, deeply meta absurdity that manages to keep its audience in stitches from start to finish, it’s a true credit to its designers.
Without giving too much away (there’s nothing that could prepare you for what you’re about to witness anyway) Coleman and Everett’s grave-digging premise is a red herring.
What this show really is, is the comedy duo’s wackiness exploding all over the intimate stage, props, snacks, bizarre character-swapping and all.
When it stops being just a bit weird and morphs into complete and utter mayhem is when the pair really shine. Feeding off the crowd’s confused laughter and slight sense of fear only eggs them on further. It’s a joy to behold.
Don’t go expecting a sharp stand up performance with a few eyebrow-raising punchlines.
Go – and I cannot stress this enough – expecting nothing, because none of it makes any sense whatsoever. Beer will only make it easier to tumble down the rabbit hole.
It’s a 10pm timeslot for a reason.
