Arcadia – Bohemian Cabaret
Cabaret
Rating: ***
The Octagon at Gluttony
Until March 20
This is a strange departure from the usual big top cabaret line-up of individual acts.
Instead, it is flashy chorus line work by a half dozen obviously professional dancers.
Inspired by the Burning Man festival, the glitz, the costumes, the engagement and the moves are all high class, but you can be forgiven for wondering where the front line of the act is.
It is as though the chorus line has ditched all that and insisted on taking centre stage, but without dialogue and only a few attempts at variety.
Clearly Covid has created a desert for chorus lines. This outing into the Fringe can be taken as their oasis.
Arcadia doesn’t go anywhere and instead relies on the pleasures of high-spirited joy of release.
The pop music is loud and relentless and could do with some further curation.
Dancing big routines non-stop for an hour is certainly worthy of respect.
