In a world which has changed drastically over the past year, it’s comforting to return to the Fringe and see Amos Gill be, well, Amos Gill. And trust me - that’s a good thing.
The festival regular might have graduated to a (much) bigger venue but he delivers the same quality stand-up show we’ve come to expect, full of rude, crude observations and rapid-fire jokes, the vast majority of which hit the mark.
There’s a fine line that many comedians dare not cross when it comes to humour yet Gill seems to delight in pushing the envelope, offering his questionable thoughts on everything from bestiality and gender, to religion and Melbourne’s ongoing battle with COVID.
It had a few in the audience cringing on occasion but it’s all par for the course for the former radio funnyman.
Now there is more to his comedy than offensive material. Gill shared the plight of the “uniquely sad” millennial generation, as well as his take on the state of Australian society, proving himself to be genuinely perceptive at times.
There’s enough light and shade for anyone looking to be stimulated beyond the average show but ultimately it’s just a highly entertaining hour of comedy.
