It’s rare that someone can explain in-depth science without putting an audience to sleep, but Rachel Rayner does as good a job as any.

Mixing lighthearted, punny humour with what is clearly a very informed science background, Rayner takes the audience on a journey.

She uses layman’s terms – with the help of dog analogies to explain the difference between gamma rays and radio waves.

And Rayner does it in a way that make you feel like she’s your fun high school science teacher.

For science lovers looking for a bubbly take on a topic you might know, or novices who want to learn something you never thought you wanted to, A Flying Photon is worth a look.
