Cereal milk lattes at Gelina Milk Bar a first for Adelaide – and probably Australia
Cereal milk lattes are the next big thing in coffee – or are they? Adelaide’s first milk bar is serving coffees flavoured by favourite breakfast cereals. And we gave it a try.

We’ve had matcha lattes, turmeric lattes, even beetroot lattes.
Now a local restaurateur has a new trend brewing: cereal milk lattes.
Billy Petropoulos, the man behind burger specialist Boneshaker, is serving the caffeine concoction at his new Gelina Milk Bar in Adelaide’s Myer Centre food court. It’s coffee, blended with milk that has been infused with cereal such as Cornflakes, Coco Pops and Lucky Charms.
“It’s no different to having a hot chocolate – it’s a cereal-flavoured taste,” Billy says.
The modern-day milk bar is also serving up milkshakes, made-to-order ice cream and a rotation of 12 traditional American pies, from lemon meringue and key lime, to pumpkin and blueberry.
“I started off in pastries, so I always had a love for sweets and cakes, and baking,” Billy says.
“Everything is infused with cereal … we have cereal-based cookies, bars, cereal pavlovas and obviously the fresh rolled ice cream, too.”
While it’s believed cereal milk lattes are not being served elsewhere in Australia, coffee chain Starbucks introduced the idea to its UK and European stores in early 2019.
Gelina is the second “cereal specialist” to open in the past week. Leeroy’s, on Morphett St, is a cafe serving bowls of cereal with coffee … although not together.
Gelina is one of four new eateries to open in Myer as part of “Billy’s Lane”. It joins Boneshaker, hot pot bar Little Pot and bao bun bar, Bao.
