Steeped in history, this sprawling Holbrook property is being offered for just the second time in 150 years.
ONE of the Holbrook district’s key properties is being offered for just the second time in 150 years.
The 1295ha property Stonehaven was originally part of the Ross family’s famed Kinross Station, but was allocated to part of the family in 1933.
Stonehaven’s current owners are three local farming families, who are selling due to a restructure of their businesses.

Selling agent David Gittoes said a lot of work had been put into the property, with quality upgrades and improvements to soil health.
“The end result is a property that has the ability to run a lot of stock and grow crops,” Mr Gittoes said.
“The substantial pasture improvement program has more than doubled the carrying capacity in recent years and the property shows excellent returns.”
Stonehaven is a mix of undulating country with good stands of native trees and fertile creek flats. It is at the western end of the Billabong Valley.
Water is provided by two bores, which reticulate water through the front half of the property, and 22 surface dams at the back half.
Mr Gittoes said the owners had invested heavily in improving soils and sowing pastures, with stands of lucerne and permanent pastures, as well as fodder crops, which were planted for grazing. It has an estimated carrying capacity of 18,000 dry sheep equivalents.
Stonehaven has a seven-bedroom, three-bathroom brick homestead built in about 1920, which has been extensively renovated. There is a study/office, a formal lounge and dining room, a billiard room, two living areas, a sunroom and a kitchen with meals area and walk-in pantry.
The house has ducted heating and refrigerated cooling, as well as seven open fireplaces and a combustion wood fire. The house is in a garden with an inground pool.
Working improvements include one of the three original shearing sheds built on Kinross Station, which Mr Gittoes said was in “magnificent condition and a credit to past and present owners”. It has seven stands and can hold 1500 woolly sheep undercover.
Other improvements include concreted sheep yards, modern covered cattle yards, machinery sheds, hay sheds and six grain silos. There are also cattle containment areas which have been used to finish cattle on grain.
Stonehaven is 19km north of Holbrook, 76km south of Wagga Wagga and 81km north of Albury.
